Plains Art Museum is a dynamic cultural institution committed to enriching lives through art,
creativity, and community engagement. We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented
Controller to lead our financial operations and support our mission-driven work across
departments. The Controller is responsible for the effectiveness of all financial activities of the
Museum, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit oversight. This role
serves as the lead accountant and a key member of the leadership team, providing vision and
direction for the accounting department. The Controller will manage financial operations for
the Museum, its Center for Creativity, and significant earned income streams—including
charitable gaming.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management required.
• Master’s degree or CPA designation preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years in financial and administrative management.
• Experience in nonprofit or cultural organizations preferred.
• Familiarity with North Dakota Charitable Gaming regulations is a plus.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Strategic thinker with analytical and organizational expertise.
• Proficient in Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains and other accounting software.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently.


Comments:
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and supervise the accounting team, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including tax filings
• and regulatory submissions.
• Oversee audits, property leases, and compliance functions.
• Collaborate with the CEO and department heads on strategic financial planning and
• budgeting.
• Track and report on restricted and grant-related funding.
• Administer payroll and HR-related benefits in coordination with accounting staff.
• Maintain financial controls across all Museum divisions, including charitable gaming.
• Advise departments on resource allocation and financial strategy.
• Serve as liaison to the Board Finance Committee and report monthly.
• Supervise IT operations through designated staff.
• Support long-term financial planning and forecasting.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The salary range for this position is $60,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience and
credentials.
